NHS Cheshire and Merseyside recognised with top award for outstanding support to the Armed Forces community

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) recognises employers who go above and beyond in supporting Defence to renew the nation’s contract with those who serve or have served.

The scheme encompasses Bronze, Silver and Gold awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

NHS Cheshire and Merseyside was one of 200 employers nationally to receive the Gold award in 2025 – the highest badge of honour for employers recognising their exceptional support to veterans, reservists, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and military families in the workplace.

Al Carns DSO OBE MC MP, Minister for Veterans and People, said:

To achieve Gold, employers must:

  • Provide at least 10 days’ additional paid leave for reservists
  • Implement HR policies for veterans and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers

  • Demonstrate sustained commitment well beyond the minimum requirements
