Whiston Hospital Maternity Unit rated ‘Good’ by CQC

Maternity staff at Whiston Hospital have been praised after a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated the service ‘Good’ across all standards. This means the Trust maintains its overall ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating.

Representatives of the CQC visited the hospital’s maternity unit in December 2023 as part of their national maternity services inspection to provide an up-to-date view of the quality of maternity care across the country.

Staff were praised widely in the report for their continued focus on improving services and their desire to put patients first.

The report states:

Information:

“Staff were focused on the needs of all those receiving care and were committed to continually improving services while promoting a culture of dignity and respect.’’

The report also highlighted that maternity staff had training in key skills, worked together as a team and managed safety well by controlling infection risks, keeping good records, managing incidents and working constantly to reduce health inequalities.

Responding to the news, Chief Executive Ann Marr OBE said:

Information:

“We are delighted and proud that our maternity services have once again been rated as ‘Good’ by the CQC after their latest inspection. It is pleasing to hear inspectors recognised the positive culture of our Trust that places people at the heart of the service, and I would like to thank our staff for their continued commitment to delivering the highest standards of care for women, their babies and their families.

“The Trust welcomes the feedback within the CQC’s report and will continue to strive to make further improvements to deliver our vision of 5 star patient care.’’
