NHS Cheshire and Merseyside June 2025 Blog
Friday, 20 June 2025

I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Chief Executive of NHS Cheshire and Merseyside, having formally taken up the role on 1 June.
It is an honour to return to a region I already know well and care deeply about.
With a background in social and economic policy, since 2017 I have held Board-level NHS positions across Greater Manchester and, more recently, West Yorkshire. I previously worked on socio-economic development for a number of not-for-profit organisations, including in Liverpool.
We are entering a critical period for health and care, both nationally and locally. Across Cheshire and Merseyside, we face significant pressures – both financial and demographic – but we also have a strong foundation to build on.
Our ongoing success in areas such as cancer care, diagnostics and stroke outcomes show what can be achieved through meaningful partnership working.
I am committed to progressing our work as a system – including the delivery of the next phase of our All Together Fairer plan – to address the key challenges facing people across the region.
This means working collaboratively across sectors, providing seamless access to safe and high-quality health and care, using resources effectively and preventing ill health by proactively addressing our residents’ health needs in their communities.
I look forward to working closely with partners across health, social care, the voluntary sector and beyond as we shape a healthier future for everyone in Cheshire and Merseyside.
Best wishes,
Cathy Elliott
Chief Executive
