Urgent treatment centres
Urgent treatment centres (UTC) provide medical help when it's not a life-threatening emergency. They can diagnose and deal with many of the common problems people go to A&E for.
Other types of urgent care services are called minor injuries units or walk-in centres. They offer some, but not all, of the same help as urgent treatment centres.
UTCs have practical opening times and can be accessed without an appointment, although often appointments can be booked through 111 or a GP referral. UTCs are equipped to diagnose and deal with many of the most common ailments people attend A&E for.
UTCs work alongside other parts of the urgent care network including primary care, community pharmacists, ambulance and other community-based services to provide a locally accessible and convenient alternative to A&E for patients who do not need to attend hospital.
