Urgent Care Consultation Update
28 May 2019
Following the completion of our Urgent Care consultation in 2018, we have spent the first part of 2019 looking at what people have said, as well as looking at other evidence, before making decisions on the future of urgent care in Wirral.
We want to thank everyone who contributed to the consultation and provided their views on our proposals.
We are making two reports available as part of our decision making process, these are the Consultation Report and the report of the Clinical Senate.
During the consultation period, which ran from 20th September 2018 to 12th December 2018 we gathered the views of people across Wirral and held many public engagement events, which gave us the opportunity to talk through our proposals. The information gathered during the consultation was independently analysed and the resulting report provides a comprehensive summary of what people and stakeholders have said.
Clinical Senate Report
The Clinical Senate for Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South Cumbria visited Wirral during the consultation period to provide an independent clinical view of our proposals. During the visit members of the senate visited urgent care locations and spoke with staff about services and their views on the current urgent care system as well as the proposed new model of care.
The report of the Clinical Senate summarises a number of recommendations, one of which was to consider holding a clinical innovations day to bring together clinicians to look at areas such as how digital innovation could help improve local services. We held our first clinical innovations day in April 2019 and this brought together doctors and nurses from across the NHS in Wirral. We will be planning a series of follow up events to progress this important work over the coming months.
We are in the process of finalising a final recommendation which will be presented to the Governing Body of the CCG on 9th July 2019, meeting as part of the Joint Strategic Commissioning Board. This meeting will be held in public at Birkenhead Town Hall. The papers for this meeting will be available on the NHS Wirral CCG and Wirral Council websites on 24th June 2019.
Prior to this we will present the consultation findings and those of the Clinical Senate to a joint scrutiny committee of Wirral Council and Cheshire West and Chester Council. This is to allow the committee to make any final comments or recommendations prior to the Governing Body making a decision.
Following a decision a further meeting will be held with the joint scrutiny committee before any decision begins implementation.
