Dementia Engagement Report
23 May 2019
The mental health team undertook an engagement exercise with people living with dementia back in December 2018/January 2019. The purpose of the engagement was to help localise the refresh of our dementia strategy, which will outline the ambition for dementia care in Wirral.
Dementia is a growing challenge. In England, it is estimated that around 676,000 people have the condition. In Wirral, currently there are 3,195 people aged 65+ who have a recorded diagnosis of dementia. Projections estimate that the number of people with dementia in Wirral will increase to 7,019 in 2030. Therefore it is important that Wirral has a clear, robust and sustainable plan for dementia care. National guidance will be used to help structure Wirral's Strategy, however in order to localise the strategy and identify the core areas of focus, the plan needs to be developed in partnership with those who have lived experience of dementia, including; people living with a diagnosis, carers of people with dementia, family and friend of someone living with dementia and staff across health, social, voluntary and charity sectors.
