Clinical Pharmacists in General Practice
18 July 2017
Over half a million people across Cheshire and Merseyside set to benefit as clinical pharmacists join general practice teams
The General Practice Forward View committed to over £100m of investment to support an extra 1,500 clinical pharmacists to work in general practice by 2020/21.
The second wave of applications for the clinical pharmacy roll out programme has been assessed, meaning that over 1770 sites which cover nearly 18.5 million patients will benefit from the skill mix and knowledge that clinical pharmacists bring to general practice. In Cheshire and Merseyside, this means that 581, 916 people will have access to a clinical pharmacist through the pilot programme.
This builds on the 494 clinical pharmacists already working across approximately 650 GP practices as part of a pilot, launched in July 2015. A list of sites taking part in the roll out programme is available here: https://www.england.nhs.uk/gp/gpfv/workforce/building-the-general-practice-workforce/cp-gp/clinical-pharmacists-in-general-practice-supported-sites/
