Bidston Testing Site temporarily closed

Bidston’s Satellite Testing Site has been temporarily closed.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) have issued a statement regarding the pausing of testing in many settings across the country.

They state, "NHS Test and Trace has been notified that some test kits produced by Randox laboratories may not meet our required safety standards for coronavirus testing."

The statement continues: "As a precautionary measure and while we investigate further, NHS Test and Trace are requesting that all settings pause the use of Randox test kits with immediate effect and until further notice."

The site is therefore closed, as a precaution. We are advised that tests which have already been completed are not affected.

Testing is still available in the borough at a Mobile Testing Unit, which is unaffected, in place in West Kirby from Thursday 16 July to Sunday 19 July. Read more here

Those with appointments at the Bidston site will be contacted to rearrange their appointments and transfer to the mobile testing facility.

You can read the DHSC's full statement here.

If you do not have an appointment, but are showing symptoms of COVID-19, please click here to make an appointment:

According to, the main symptoms of coronavirus are:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.

An update will be provided as soon as possible.
