Alcohol Awareness Week 2019
11 November 2019
This week (11-17th November) is Alcohol Awareness Week, which is a chance for Local Authorities and other groups across the UK to come together to get people thinking about their drinking. It's a week of awareness-raising, campaigning for change, and more. The theme for Alcohol Awareness week 2019 is 'Alcohol and Me'.
Alcohol is a causal factor in more than 60 medical conditions including mouth, throat, stomach, liver and breast cancers; high blood pressure, cirrhosis of the liver, and depression. Each year, alcohol is a factor in the deaths of 24,000 people in the UK. It's the biggest risk factor for deaths among 15-49 year olds.
People of all ages are affected by alcohol harm. People aged 55-64 are more likely to exceed the recommended weekly guidelines more than any other age group, and 200,000 children live with an alcohol dependent carer.
